Forest outing

We haven't been too good at going out a lot, just spend our time at home. We were late getting started taking Magnus out for daily strolls, but now he gets a regular walk outside everyday. But on this Saturday we decided to go out to the forest and catch the tail end of the blueberry season.

As usual, Magnus was extremely excited when we were preparing to go out. So much, in fact, that he made some amazing sounds out in the hallway that caught everybody's attention and we all just laughed.

He napped a bit during the drive as usual, but when we stopped the car and got out he was soooo excited again. Everything was just GREAT! Trees and new sounds and life was just fine... We all spread out through the forest to pick berries - turned out there were only some blueberries left, this was truly the end of the season, but a lot of lingonberries. And we'd take turns strolling Magnus around on the forest road.

Great trip for everybody involved, and we came home with 3 liters of blueberries and about a litre of lingonberry. We made 1 litre of blueberry jam and syrup out of the rest. And we got to test the new device; the berry cleaner "Rasken" which connects to the vacuum cleaner.

Baby doesn't like me anymore

Having the in-laws around have a couple of backlashes. I feel somewhat like a guest in my own house, and they are always around Magnus so I feel I cannot quite connect with him. I haven't been getting so much time with him lately, and it makes me sad. Thus I am not able to follow his development so closely.

Suddenly he is just not happy whenever I am around. If I pick him up he just wants to cry, no matter how I hold him, while everybody else can hold him. And I used to be so proud I could comfort him and make him stop crying when he was upset, now it's the other way around and he starts crying when I show up.

Magnus doesn't like me anymore, and I am a very upset daddy. I don't know what to do.

First vacation trip - Geiranger

It was a very exciting day - time for Magnus' very first vacation trip!! We filled up the car with Muna, me, her parents, Magnus, our newly purchased electric cooler (portable fridge - for drinks and minifom), the stroller bag, our change of clothes, and off we went on a Friday afternoon. We were very curious how it would work out with Magnus - we know he likes to sleep in the car, but how much would he sleep, and what would he do when he wasn't ?

He started out just looking out the window at all the things flashing by outside, and eventually dozed off. We made it all the way to Hønefoss... before he told us in loud terms that he was tired of sitting and now wanted food!

The next leg of our journey ended in a Macdonalds in Gjøvik, where it was time for food for everyone. A little north of Tretten in total darkness, he just started crying in the back seat, and it turned out he needed to burp and fart for a good while before we could continue.

But eventually we made it to Otta - our first night away. We had reserved a cabin. We got a huge one just for us - normally there would be 4 times as many people in there, but this was the off-season. Everything went great and Magnus fell asleep in his bag upon arrival. However at 4am there was no hiding it anymore - he was hungry and not interested in sleeping anymore. He cried so loud that nobody slept anything afterwards.

During the day we crossed the Mount Strynefjell - Magnus slept through his first waterfall which was Pollfoss, and later we had a longer stop at Dalsnibba viewpoint. It was too windy there for Magnus to come out and look, so he just slept in the car, but when we finally came down to Geiranger he could come out.

The restaurant where we wanted to eat turned out to be closed, and the downtown also seemed surprisingly closed up for the after-season. When we finally found a cafe we greatfully entered and ate there despite a very short menu. We got them back by using one of their corner tables as changing room for Magnus' smelly diapers !!

*After* eating we found a hub of small cafes, restaurants and tourist places open also after the peak season. Oh well. We took pictures of Magnus in his bag on the pier with the big cruiseships on the fjord. He seemed to enjoy the trip, although he was not quite getting the same out of it as we others did.

We returned back to Sjåk in the evening to sleep at yet another camping cabin. Sunday was used to return back home, crossing through Jotunheimen in the rain.

A very successful first vacation-weekend, and it turns out that Magnus is an angel to bring on a cartrip.

6-week control

My baby is growing so fast ! It feels like he has been with us for an eternity, but yet so short, and still it feels like he's already so grown now at 6 weeks and we were due for a checkup.

It took place over at the local nurse station, by the nice doctor who took a look at magnus earlier when we found he had problems with colic.

He put Magnus at a table and squeezed all over his body, looked in his throat, eyes and ears, turned him over at his stomach, did a lot of things to check everything was fine. Magnus seemed to enjoy it all, and looked at everything with big eyes and a sort of amused smile on his face.

As usual when put on his stomach he put on an aura of "look at what I can do", proudly showing off for the doctor.

Finally, daddy could put Magnus' clothes back on while we got the verdict: He is a healthy, big and strong boy. He has a slight case of water hernia (?) which is not a problem, it will go away by itself shortly, just to make sure to follow its progression.

We knew it - of course everything is fine with our favorite baby in the whole wide world.
